Breeze Beta Release

The beta release of the Breeze wallet is now available and represents a significant milestone in our development roadmap schedule.
There has been extensive work undertaken since the alpha release in order to move the Breeze wallet to the beta status. A key development since the alpha release is the Breeze wallet now supports two currencies running side by side: Stratis and Bitcoin respectively.
The release encompasses user interface enhancements and provides updates with regards to stability.
Existing Breeze Wallet Holders
There have been a number of updates, therefore, any users which have an existing Breeze wallet will need to perform the following steps before starting the app:

  1. Make sure you have your mnemonics and your passwords for these wallets

2. Delete all the files in the following folders:
%AppData%\StratisNode on Windows or ~/.stratisnode on MacOS and Linux

  1. Choose wallet recovery on start-up and use your mnemonic and password

Stratis Wallet Update v2.0.0.3

This wallet update was put in place to mitigate against potential delays when syncing fresh wallets. Our network has recently seen a large influx of new wallets which, at times, was putting increased load on the existing nodes. This update introduces a more dynamic load balancing across more nodes to solve long sync times.
There are two main issues people have been experiencing and here’s how to solve both of them:

  1. No connections to the network.
The solution to this is as easy as updating to the latest wallet version (v2.0.0.3).
  2. Wallet shows it’s synced, but you’re not receiving transactions.
This is because our main seednode experienced an unintentional DDoS because of the large influx of new wallets causing it to halt. Due to how it was configured a lot of people had that node as their only connection and are now on a wrong chain.

Please follow these steps carefully to fix the issue:

  • Close your wallet
  • Update to v2.0.0.3 of our wallet
  • For Windows: navigate to %appdata%/Stratis using the address bar in Windows Explorer
  • For OS X: navigate to ~/Library/Application Support/Stratis using Finder (Go menu -> Go to Folder)
  • In that folder DO NOT remove the wallet.dat file (you should have this file backed up anyway), as that contains all your funds
  • Remove all the other files in the folder (again, DO NOT remove the wallet.dat)
  • Start your wallet and you should be good to go

This is a good time to take another backup of your wallet.dat file for safe keeping (Not required but backing up your wallet regularly is always recommended )
We strongly advise you to only download from official links provided by Stratis and through official Open Source repository on Github. General information about Stratis wallet can be found here.
Please be extremely careful when installing, operating or otherwise using your wallet. Stratis Group Ltd. is not responsible for any loss or damage to your software in connection to your activities and use of the software.

Stratis’ Breeze Wallet Redefines Financial Privacy for Blockchains

TumbleBit is probably one of the most promising technological advancements built on top of Bitcoin to date. Not only does it offer one of the best — if not the best — privacy related innovations so far, it can also provide significant scaling benefits as a payment hub. The solution is also fully compatible with the current Bitcoin protocol and, most important, it is in an advanced stage of development.

(Bitcoin Magazine , Feb. 2017)

Stratis Group has announced today it is launching an ambitious cryptocurrency project, aimed at increasing financial privacy available to the users of Bitcoin and the Stratis Platform.
The project dubbed “Breeze Wallet” incorporates the innovations brought by TumbleBit to both Bitcoin and Stratis, into a real-world production environment combined with the privacy enhancements introduced by the Full Block Secure Payment Validation system.
Stratis plans to integrate TumbleBit into the Breeze Wallet making it the first Bitcoin wallet that addresses the privacy issues in blockchain transactions, the Breeze Wallet works with the current Bitcoin protocol and does not require any forks.
Stratis Financial Privacy Protocol
The Stratis development team will be extending the Stratis blockchain to support the Stratis Financial Privacy Protocol based on the TumbleBit concept. Our goal is to offer a truly trustless and decentralized privacy protocol on the Stratis blockchain and its private chains, while working with financial services regulators on developing regulatory compliant blockchain solutions utilizing the Stratis Privacy protocol.
Enhanced Privacy
Presently there is a huge demand for privacy on the blockchain. One of the main hurdles faced by the adoption of Blockchain technologies in the financial services industry is the privacy of financial data on the blockchain. When the Stratis Financial Privacy protocol is implemented into the Stratis Platform, businesses will have the possibility to use the Stratis Blockchain with a guarantee of privacy from their transactions (payments, records and data). That’s a big advantage over other Blockchain projects.
Why TumbleBit?
The team behind Stratis carefully evaluated the different concepts and technological options to deliver a truly trustless and secure privacy solution that would meet the requirements of enterprise and consumers worldwide. After extensive research, it became evident that TumbleBit was the best fit for our future development goals because it is:
Private: Transactions are truly private and unlinkable.
Untrusted: No one (including Tumbler) can steal payments
Compatible: TumbleBit is fully compatible with today’s Bitcoin protocol.
TumbleBit includes (offblockchain) cryptographic protocols that work with the very limited set of (on-blockchain) instructions provided by today’s Bitcoin scripts
The TumbleBit/Stratis Roadmap
A few weeks ago, Stratis put in motion a development plan for the integration of TumbleBit capabilities into Stratis. Having established the feasibility of such an endeavour, we immediately took the initial steps to make this a reality in the shortest term.
To help us accomplish a smooth and speedy process, we secured the services of Adam Ficsor, one of the contributors to the TumbleBit research paper (https://eprint.iacr.org/2016/575.pdf) and the official implementation of Tumblebit NTumbleBit. As a Technical Advisor for the development of a production ready Tumblebit full block SPV wallet in C# (Breeze Wallet), Adam will help us achieve our goal, by delivering a fully functional full block SPV, while also working on the Stratis Wallet framework and the completion of NTumbleBit.
According to Adam:
“Everyone who is not using Bitcoin Core has already had all their addresses linked together by third parties. This is not a theoretical “assume the worst case” strategy, this is reality. The third parties are either the central servers your wallet relies on or in case of SPV wallets all Blockchain surveillance companies.”
Trustless Exchange: Trustless Stratis <-> Bitcoin exchange
The planned TumbleBit implementation not only will speed up and streamline the development of Stratis full-block SPV TumbleBit wallet, but will also make possible to include in it a trustless, secure exchange for Bitcoin-Stratis pair.
Exposure of Stratis to millions of Bitcoin Users
The expected inflow of Bitcoin users towards a TumbleBit enabled Bitcoin wallet offering enhanced privacy, will undoubtedly translate into making it the de-facto wallet for such transactions around the world. This in turn, will represent an extraordinary opportunity to expose Stratis and its platform to all those users, and this will further cement our symbiotic relationship with the leading cryptocurrency and its community.

How to securely hold STRAT (Stratis Weekly #3)

Cryptocurrencies are truly liberating – never before have individuals been able to take charge of their funds, independent of any financial institution. But if you are going to be your own bank you must also be your own security guard. At Stratis we have a set of best practices to help you safeguard your tokens. With these few simple steps you can enjoy all the benefits Stratis has to offer without any negative side effects.
Improving the security of your Stratis account relies on one basic principle – the more layers of security you can put between yourself and a potential hacker the better.
Ways to keep your wallet safe

  1. Keep your tokens offline (known as ‘cold storage’) either on your hard drive, on an external hard drive or send to Stratis Wallet on your computer for staking.
  2. Don’t forget to backup your wallet. Go to FILE > BACKUP WALLET. Best practice is to do this frequently onto several new or freshly formatted usb hard drives.
  3. Lock down your password. Good password security is essential in the cryptocurrency community – a long password with a mixture of numbers, letters and symbols is best and changing your passwords often can help security.
  4. Encrypt your Stratis wallet by going to SETTING > ENCRYPT wallet.
  5. Update your software to the latest version of the client. Get notified of updates by joining us on our Slack channel, Bitcointalk thread, or follow us on Twitter @stratisplatform
  6. Ensure your malware software is running full scans on a regular basis and is up to date.
  7. Most important: Write down or otherwise make sure you will always remember your password every time you change it. Most loses occur when people lock themselves out of their wallets.

Take Care Online
If you must keep tokens online – a popular practice is to only keep only small amounts of currency there for daily use. You should always use 2FA with online accounts and where possible, set up security alerts so that you can keep tabs on all login activity.
Did you know that most security breaches lie with human error? Vigilance is key. Be careful in forums to avoid revealing your identity together with your Stratis Address, use only trusted computers – no internet cafes or ‘family’ computers – and check your internet connection is secure.

Stratis is Designed for Security
We are working hard in the background to keep the entire Stratis platform as secure as possible. Let’s take a deeper look at what we are doing and how that works in our interests.
Stratis preserves the trusted, secure architecture of Bitcoin – by that we mean the ability to create a tamper-proof record of transactions by securing them cryptographically. This means that information can be committed to the Stratis blockchain with confidence. How we differ from Bitcoin is in the way in which we secure that information.
Bitcoin is 100% proof of work (POW) meaning miners carry out complex computations in order to write data to the blockchain, and generate new coins as a reward for doing so. However, Stratis has moved to 100% Proof of Stake (POS) whereby Stratis holders secure the Blockchain by holding tokens in their wallets, allowing them to mature (no transactions in 24 hours), and leaving the wallets open. Investors who ’stake’ their tokens in such a way can earn Stratis in reward – a bit like earning interest on their holdings. POS is fairer for all and several thousand times more cost effective than POW. It doesn’t require any mining equipment so it isn’t subject to spiraling running costs and mining centralisation.
Help the overall network security and start staking your tokens today. We are pleased to see that 50% of Stratis holders are already doing this – an unusually high number of investors! If you would like to join them and earn a little Stratis in the process, all the information you need to started can be found here.

STRATIS WEEKLY ROUNDUP

Stratis Platform Integrates with Microsoft Azure

In case you missed it, this was our big story over the weekend and you can read more about it at Tech Announcer and Cryptohustle
Freewallet
We are pleased to announce that Freewallet have included Stratis in their mobile wallet service. ‘Freewallets allow you to store and manage digital currencies with ease in the smart and beautiful mobile-first cryptocurrency wallets’. Please note this is third party software and not endorsed by Stratis. We are expecting apps to be available soon at Apple Mac store and Google Play.
That’s it for this issue but one final word before we go – we were really pleased to see Stratis remain stable during the recent Bitcoin price rise. It was one of very few cryptocurrencies to do so!
